Estimation of confidence intervals for Multinomial proportions of sparse contingency tables using Bayesian methods

چکیده
Multinomial distribution, widely used in applications with discrete data, witnessed varieties of competing intervals from frequentist to Bayesian methods, still prove to be interesting in the case of zero counts or sparse contingency tables. The methods commonly recommended in both approaches are considered based on its influence of zero counts, polarizing cell counts, and aberrations. The inference based on comparative study shows that Bayesian approach, with an appropriate prior could be a good choice in dealing with a sparse data set without any imputation for zero values.

Analysis of Dynamic Longitudinal Categorical Data in Incomplete Contingency Tables Using Capture-Recapture Sampling: A case Study of Semi-Concentrated Doctoral Exam
Abstract. In this paper, dynamic longitudinal categorical data and estimation of their parameters in incomplete contingency tables are evaluated. To apply the proposed method, a study has been conducted on the data of the semi-concentrated doctoral exam of the National Organization for Educational Testing (NOET). The results of studies such as the obtained confidence intervals and calculating t...
متن کاملOn measures of agreement calculated from contingency tables with categories defined by the empirical quantiles of the marginal distributions.
Epidemiologists sometimes collect bivariate continuous data on a number of subjects, compute the empirical (sample) quantiles of the marginal data, and then use these values to partition the original data into two-way contingency tables. Tables created in this manner have row and column categories defined by the random empirical marginal quantiles rather than by preset cutpoints, so these table...
متن کاملComparison of Maximum Likelihood Estimation and Bayesian with Generalized Gibbs Sampling for Ordinal Regression Analysis of Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome
Background and Objectives: Analysis of ordinal data outcomes could lead to bias estimates and large variance in sparse one. The objective of this study is to compare parameter estimates of an ordinal regression model under maximum likelihood and Bayesian framework with generalized Gibbs sampling. The models were used to analyze ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome data. Methods: This study use...
متن کاملFrequentist performance of Bayesian confidence intervals for comparing proportions in 2 x 2 contingency tables.
This article investigates the performance, in a frequentist sense, of Bayesian confidence intervals (CIs) for the difference of proportions, relative risk, and odds ratio in 2 x 2 contingency tables. We consider beta priors, logit-normal priors, and related correlated priors for the two binomial parameters. The goal was to analyze whether certain settings for prior parameters tend to provide go...
متن کاملEstimation and Testing in Large Binary Contingency Tables
Very sparse contingency tables with a multiplicative structure are studied. The number of unspecified parameters and the number of cells are growing with the number of observations. Consistency and asymptotic normality of natural estimators are established. Also uniform convergence of the estimators to the parameters is investigated, and an application to the construction of confidence interval...
